Will hands free video help reduce parking officer abuse?

Following our recent blog post in regards to the ongoing and increasing violence, aggression and abuse towards parking officers in Australia (see our post ‘Parking rangers continue to be the targets of abuse’), one council has taken further action to try and combat the growing problem.

The City of Holdfast Bay in Adelaide, South Australia, has recently purchased four hands free mini video recorders/cameras to be used by their ‘General Inspectors’ while on patrol.

The cameras, each the size of a pen placed on the officer’s uniform, can run for 2 hours non-stop and can be touch activated by the officer should an incident arise. The intention is to provide the officers with support should issues arise in dealing with the public, as well as to be used to monitor the inspectors themselves and their interactions with the public.
