Qantas Flight Training Centre

Located in St Peters, the new Qantas flight training centre aims to train up to 4,500 Qantas and Jetstar pilots and cabin crew per year.

The purpose-built 3-storey development consists of a flight simulation facility accommodating over 2,000m2 of simulation halls and 5,000m2 of office/training area. The centre includes eight full motion simulators for the Airbus A350, which is the model that will operate direct flights from Sydney to London and New York.

ptc. was engaged during the construction phase of the development by FDC Construction & Fitout. We assisted with a range of traffic engineering services including detailed design advice.

One particularity of this project was the need to plan for the flight simulators replacement and relocation. Considering the infrequent use of a dedicated loading dock for this purpose, a dual-use system was proposed as the solution. Car parking spaces located in front of roller doors can be utilised as a loading area when simulators are to be moved. This solution requires more management on site, however, it frees up the space that a dedicated loading dock would need.
