Habilis provides support to people experiencing homelessness due to severe mental health issues. Their model ensures the creation of a secure environment with purpose-built units that enable residents to develop independent living skills.
The first Habilis complex, located in Summer Hill, was successfully delivered mid-2024. The development includes 20 serviced apartments, caretaker facilities, a clinic, and commercial spaces.
ptc. was excited to be involved in this project providing traffic engineering services from Development Application through Construction stages.
In this project, the primary challenge was aligning Council parking requirements with the facility’s actual needs. Given that residents would be undergoing mental health care for a specific period and would not require extensive on-site parking, standard parking rates seemed inappropriate.
Our team developed a custom approach to determine suitable parking numbers that included:
- Analysing the facility’s operation characteristics,
- Obtaining information of parking utilisation in similar facilities,
- Comparing parking demand with other types of facilities referenced in the planning controls to achieve an appropriate comparison.
By carefully evaluating the site’s constraints, we designed a tailored vehicle access and parking area to match the end users’ requirements.
