A 30-foot concrete slab cracked off a parking garage in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 24, killing a 15 year old boy and injuring two people.
Authorities claim that the parking deck was fuller than usual due to the start of a large music festival.
Milwaukee County’s director of transportation and public works said an inspection of the facade last year found no problems. Sheriff David Clarke said investigators were looking into all possible causes, including whether a car hit the wall, and will need time to collect and analyse evidence.
Structural and external engineers will inspect the structure to determine if it is safe before cars can be retrieved. There is fear however, that the use of stack parking may have exceeded the particular loads for which the structure was originally designed
